Kim Wempe’s song “Oh Heart” often turns a room to tears by the time she reaches the second verse. When she steps away from the microphone to let her powerful voice ring out unassisted, it can take your breath away. The power of the song immediately grabbed the creative team on the Showcase network’s drama Cra$h & Burn. They borrowed a clip from the song to help “create a moment” in a recent episode. The lyrics and music have also be recognized in the songwriting community as Oh Heart was recently named a semi-finalist in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition. Carmel Mikol’s new album, In My Bones has been described as one of the most exciting releases to come out of the East Coast in a decade. The Chronicle Herald says: “her folk-pop melodies are full of life and personality, while her voice is clear, expressive and direct without overselling the emotion in her soul-bearing songs” and chose the disc as the Chronicle Herald CD Pick of the Week.
