This is how my day starts. Over and over, I sing these words in my head while brushing my teeth and out loud making my morning coffee. The new Old Man Luedecke record is firmly planted in my head.

I was hooked the first time I played the new record about a month ago while working on a spotlight for Canadian indie music blog NxEW.ca.

Woebetide the doer of the deed…

This seriously goes through my head at least once every 15 minutes. I sing it without realizing and people around me are getting annoyed.

What I’m saying, is this is really good record and you should probably go listen to it right now. Then read the North by East West Spotlight (Old Man Luedecke – My Hands are on Fire and other Love Songs).

Kim Wempe’s song “Oh Heart” often turns a room to tears by the time she reaches the second verse. When she steps away from the microphone to let her powerful voice ring out unassisted, it can take your breath away. The power of the song immediately grabbed the creative team on the Showcase network’s drama Cra$h & Burn. They borrowed a clip from the song to help “create a moment” in a recent episode. The lyrics and music have also be recognized in the songwriting community as Oh Heart was recently named a semi-finalist in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition.
